“Rummage Sale: Nothing alive or gross, please!”

Speaking to my Gilmore Girls fans out there… do you remember the episode when Lorelei volunteers to host the town’s “Rummage Sale” at her house?

tumblr_inline_ms47v2oQe21qz4rgp

The Gilmore house is covered with bags and boxes, and Lorelei refuses to give up anything of hers, claiming she wears every single thing in her closet!

–> Need a reminder? <–

(Yes, I am a huge Gilmore Girls fan! #teamlogan)

Before we had officially announced that we were going to adopt, in the back of my mind, I wanted to have a yard sale to help cover the funds for adoption expenses.

I know that a Yard Sale won’t cover everything, but every little bit helps!

I told Hailame over and over again that I wanted to do a Yard Sale, and never made a move on it.

Part of the reason I was holding back was because I knew we didn’t have enough items to sell/Hailame wouldn’t give up items I did want to sell (Hence the Gilmore Girls Connection)!

The other part was that I didn’t know if our neighbors, friends, or family would be willing to donate their unwanted belongings to us.

With a leap of faith, I sent out a message to all our friends, neighborhood and family that we were looking for donations for our Adoption Fundraising Yard Sale, and within a day or two, we had donations coming through our door.

Our second bedroom is loaded with bags and boxes full of donations. I’ve had to stuff some of it in the closets and pile it up everywhere and anywhere to make room for visitors at our home, and we still have about two weeks until our yard sale, and we are still getting text messages asking if more donations can be dropped off.

We are so loved!

If you are in St. George, Utah save the date.

November 3rd 🙂

Hailame Feletoa Tua’one

I’d like to introduce my husband, favorite person and best friend, Hailame Feletoa Tua’one.  The man who you’ll rarely ever see not wearing a hat (and has 40+ laying around the house), who loves all things BYU, looks younger than majority of his siblings and has an Australian accent when he starts talking about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hailame18

I was planning on having him write about himself, but I’m pretty sure the whole post would consist of 3 sentences, and then he would say, “Babe, you already know me, just do it for me,” which he did say when I was asking him some questions about himself. :)… which shows how much I know about him!

From the perspective of his wife and his favorite person, I don’t want this post to seem to bias, some parts will be but I’ll do my best to share who he is as a individual, friend, uncle, brother, son, and future father.

Family Man

Hailame comes from a large Tongan family, like a really large Tongan family.  He is 3rd of 12 kids (6 boys and 6 girls) and is the oldest son.  He loves spending time with his family (especially his Dad and brothers) and is the beloved favorite Uncle of 30+ nieces and nephews!

Tuaone Family

Something unique and wonderful about coming from the rich Tongan heritage is EXTENDED family relationships (and they are most definitely close relationships).  Hailame has combined, from both sides of the family, over 200 FIRST cousins, and they are as close as siblings are and all get together regularly.

The amount of love and support that comes from Hailame’s extended family is incredible.  They come to support each other for baby blessings, baptisms, birthdays, graduations, weddings and more.

Hailame loves his parents and family so much. He is a Mama’s Boy to his wonderful Mother, and his Dad’s #1 sidekick.  There isn’t a day that goes by that doesn’t he calls or texts one of his parents to check in on them to see how they are doing.  He lives to serve and support them in any way he can.

Working Man

Hailame gives all the credit to his father for his hard working ethic.  From a young age he was taught how to work, and work well.  He is regularly the first to offer to help others and the last to leave a function or event so he can help with cleaning up.

Hailame15

When visiting family in Salt Lake City, you will most likely find Hailame spending his time working a long side his Dad, whether it be at his job or around the house.  He looks forward to continually learning from his Dad, as well as talking to and learning from his Dad about his Tongan heritage.

Hailame’s Mom was the first love of his life!  He loves spending time in the kitchen with her when she is preparing a wedding or birthday cake or desserts for an event.  His Mom taught him how to bake from a young age, and was given the nickname of “Pillsbury Boy” for his mad baking skills.

Hailame and Nola5

A large part of Hailame’s big heart was from his Mom.  She is the #1 Mom, Grandma, Auntie, and Friend who will lives to bless others with her talents.

Hailame enjoys working and serving others, being productive and providing for our family.  He never sees any job below him, and is willing to put in the time to sufficiently provide.

People Person Man

Hailame loves spending time with people.  I can guarantee that if you come by our house, he will invite you to stay and ask if you would like anything to eat. On Sundays, he usually asks me to make a little extra dinner so he can invite friends over.

He loves meeting new people, and has a talent for remembering people, and their names.  Quite often, people won’t remember my name, but they’ll say, :”aren’t you married to Hyrum?”  Or “isn’t your husband the really awesome Polynesian?  He is so nice and so cool!”  I can accept it, because I always agree that he is an awesome Polynesian and super nice and way cool!  I know…I have great taste… I married him obviously!

Us

Hailame has a way of people putting people at ease when they are around him.  He is easy to talk to, will start up the conversation if no one is talking, and will leave with a new friend by the end of the conversation.

Fun Man

In addition to being a people person man, Hailame is also a fun man!  If you’re hanging out with Hailame, you will most likely be listening to music because he LOVES music and he carries a mini and/or larger Bluetooth speaker around with him EVERYWHERE he goes.

Hailame and Nola4

He loves playing pickleball, and especially enjoys teaching our friends how to play pickleball, so he has more friends to play with.  If he had his way, we would be playing pickleball every single night of the week!

Playing card games is a regular activity in our relationship.  A tradition he started early in our marriage was playing cards when we go out to eat while waiting for our food to come.  When we invite friends to our house, we play cards, when we go up north to visit family, he plays cards until 1 or 2 in the morning with his Dad, Mom and brothers.

Hailame has a very contagious positive outlook on life.  It’s hard to not have his good attitude and happiness effect you because he has such a huge heart and is always trying to make others happy around him.  Very few things in life upset him (one of the few… when BYU loses a football game), and he has a way with helping others see the good in life.

Christlike Man

Hailame is a man of action when it comes to living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He loves to serve those around him.  He attributes his dedication to living a Christlike life to his parents who taught by example what it means to minister and give to those and need.   His testimony of the Gospel shows through the way he lives his life and how he serves and loves those around him.

Hailame10

His motto in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is “Open Your Mouth.”  He believes that the best way in reaching out to those is putting aside your fears and opening your mouth.  He is the best at speaking to those he doesn’t know and does his best to find how he can help them and showing true Christlike love to them.

Future Father Man

Obviously this small post can’t possibly encompass and describe the man that Hailame is, but I hope that it will give a small glimpse into the kind of Future Father he will be one day.

Hailame12

Hailame is going to be a wonderful dad.  The children that come into our home will be completely adored by him and they will know daily how much he loves them and who their #1 Fan is for life.  He will teach by example how to be good, honest, selfless, patient, and hardworking.

He was made to be dad and I promise you, he will be the best dad.

love,

His #1 Fan

Getting to know the Tua’one’s

During the next few days, I am going to dedicate a few posts to introduce ourselves as prospective adoptive parents.

It is my hope that these posts can be used as a way for an expectant mother to get to know us a little better, and provide a glimpse into the life we would raise our family.

I can only imagine how difficult it would be to place your child for adoption, I know it is not an easy decision.

But I hope that when we do find a fit to adopt a baby, the expectant Mother will be fully confident that her baby will be a part of a wonderful family and life, and will be so loved.

First up: Getting to know Hailame Feletoa Tua’one

Hailame

Stay Tuned.

love, hannah jane

We love you already

Dear future baby,

I know we haven’t met, but that’s okay, we love you already.

We love that you are going to be an answer to the endless prayers we been saying for a long time.

We love your birth Mother who will entrust you to be ours.

We love that you will be brought into a family with loving grandparents, and MANY aunts, uncles and cousins.

We love the newborn smell you’ll have for the first little while of your newborn life.

We love the sleepless nights we’ll have with you as you learn to sleep through the night.

We love the extra the bag of “just in case”  and “always be prepared” items we’ll carry around regularly just to make sure you are well taken care of.

We love that you will most likely be dressed better than we ever will because it’s way more fun to dress up babies than ourselves.

We love the accidental smiles that will eventually turn into real smiles

We love that our Instagram and Facebook posts will mainly consist of you and the genius baby you are as you successfully eat peas for the time or sit up on your own.

We love the “first time” moments we’ll be able to create with you.

We love that we get to be your parents.

We know that it may take some time to find you, but that’s okay.

We love you already.

See you soon.

Love, your parents

So, what’s next?

We have been so overwhelmed and full of gratitude by the love, excitement, encouragement and support we have been receiving from so many since sharing our exciting news to grow our family through adoption!

We feel so fortunate to be surrounded by so many wonderful family and friends.

With all of the amazing support we have been receiving, we’ve also been getting a lot of questions as to what our next step is going to be in this process.

Back story:

Not long before sharing our news, I visited with a cousin that were in our shoes of infertility and were able to adopt 3 beautiful kids.  Their first son, Toa, they adopted from Samoa (after living there for some time) and the other two, AJ and Elizabeth they were able to adopt privately.

After hearing about their success and experience with private adoption, and also after doing some research on our own, we have decided that we are going to adopt privately.

One of the reasons we had decided not to continue with Infertility Treatments was because of the high cost.  This was one factor to our ongoing stress with infertility we were so thankful to eliminate from our marriage when moving on past infertility treatments.

During our research of different types of adoptions, along with visiting with my cousin, we found that the most affordable ways of adopting are foster-to-adopt and private adoptions.

Through private adoption, we will find our baby on our own and with the help of word of mouth.  We will continue to share our story and ask everyone to please get the word out that we are looking to adopt a baby.

Through this experience, we hope to find the right expectant Mother, who wants to create a relationship with us through an open adoption.

We understand that the process may be quicker and smoother through an agency and I am not against using an agency to adopt a baby, however, in our current situation we are wanting to take the affordable route by adopting privately.

So, what’s next for us?:

Find our baby.

We are asking for everyone to please share our story, and spread the news that we are looking to adopt a baby!

I hope that I can use this blog as a platform to share the news as well as other Social Media outlets.

Please follow my instagram account @hannahjane2a1 where I will regularly share updates, as well as like, follow and SHARE our new facebook page:

Hailame and Hannah: our adoption adventure

But most of the success with this experience will be from everyone spreading the word for us!

Please go and talk about us!  I’m begging you!! 🙂

We know that this will take time, and it will be hard, however, I also have learned that everything will work out in the Lord’s timing for us and when it’s time, our baby will be here.

love, hannah jane
